In a noteworthy stride toward fortifying last-mile connectivity within Hyderabad’s metropolitan transit ecosystem, Hyderabad Metro Rail, in collaboration with L&T, has revealed that passenger rides facilitated via the Rapido app have surpassed an impressive one crore since January 2024. This remarkable milestone underscores the pivotal role of innovative partnerships in enhancing urban mobility.
Rapido, a popular ride-hailing enterprise, has forged an alliance with L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited (L&TMRHL), thereby crafting a cohesive framework for first and last-mile connectivity tailored to Metro commuters across Hyderabad. Over the past year, Rapido has achieved an extraordinary feat by completing more than 10 million Metro-linked bookings. This strategic alliance was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), symbolizing a groundbreaking initiative in the city’s transportation narrative.
The synergy between Rapido and L&TMRHL has significantly bolstered Metro ridership, propelling it to over five lakh journeys monthly and an average of 2.7 lakh rides per day. This commendable uptick reflects the efficacy of their mutual endeavors in simplifying urban transit.
A cornerstone of this partnership is the introduction of economically viable flat-rate tariffs for Rapido’s bike Metro service, starting at an accessible ₹30. This offering encompasses all 57 Metro stations scattered across the cityscape, exemplifying a commitment to affordability and convenience.
NVS Reddy, the Managing Director of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) emphasized the critical importance of resolving last-mile connectivity issues, asserting that collaborative ventures like this are indispensable for fostering a sustainable and robust public transportation framework.
Echoing this sentiment, Pavan Guntupalli, co-founder of Rapido, emphasized their dedication to augmenting the Metro’s role as Hyderabad’s indispensable commuting backbone. “This initiative underscores our resolve to deliver accessible, cost-efficient transit solutions for Metro users,” he stated, highlighting the transformative potential of their shared vision.
Adding to the discourse, L&TMRHL’s Managing Director KVB Reddy described the partnership as a transformative leap toward revolutionizing Hyderabad’s urban commute experience. He reaffirmed their mission to offer streamlined, inclusive, and economically feasible connectivity for the Metro’s diverse user base.
This symbiotic arrangement is also fostering economic opportunities, benefiting the city’s workforce and student communities. With Rapido employing over two lakh local bike taxi operators monthly, the initiative is not only reshaping urban mobility but also providing supplementary income avenues for Hyderabad’s residents.
