Hyderabad to Expand Skywalk Connectivity for Seamless Urban Mobility and a Safer & Smarter Pedestrian Movement in the city
In a strategic move to enhance Hyderabad’s public transport infrastructure, the state government has prioritized the development of skywalks to improve pedestrian safety, ease traffic congestion, and reduce air pollution. This initiative aligns with the city’s long-term vision of minimizing private vehicle usage and promoting sustainable urban mobility.
As part of this plan, HMRL MD Mr. NVS Reddy and HMDA Metropolitan Commissioner Shri Sarfaraz Ahmed recently convened a Comprehensive Mobility Planning meeting, where they emphasized the large-scale construction of skywalks connecting metro stations to nearby commercial and residential complexes.
Existing & Upcoming Skywalks
Several skywalks are already operational, significantly improving commuter convenience:
- Punjagutta, Hitec City & Erramanzil Metro Stations – L&T has built skywalks directly linking these stations to nearby malls, enabling seamless access.
- JBS & Parade Ground Stations – Elevated pathways ensure safe road crossings.
- Rayadurg Metro Station – Raheja’s ultramodern skywalk provides direct connectivity to Mindspace IT Park, benefiting thousands of professionals.
- Uppal Metro Station – HMDA’s circular skywalk effectively links the station with all surrounding roads, streamlining pedestrian movement.
Expansion Plans & Private Sector Participation
Recognizing the success of existing skywalks, real estate developers and commercial establishments are increasingly collaborating to enhance last-mile connectivity:
- Balanagar Metro Station – A skywalk to Phoenix/Landmark Mall is under construction.
- LB Nagar Metro Station – Vasavi Group is developing a skywalk to Vasavi Anandanilayam, a 25-acre residential complex with 12 high-rise towers.
- Upcoming Skywalks – Plans are in progress for additional skywalks at Nagole, Stadium, Durgam Cheruvu, and Kukatpally Metro stations, among others.
