Hyderabad is a fast growing mega city, significantly contributing to the nation’s economic growth. However, with an explosion of private vehicles, Hyderabad is facing increasing traffic congestion and pollution levels. To address this problem, Phase I of the Hyderabad Metro Rail covering 3 corridors (69 km) has been implemented with about Rs. 22,000 Cr. The system has become very popular and there is an urgent need to expand it to many other parts of the city.
After formation of the present Government, GoTG submitted Hyderabad Metro Rail phase-II expansion proposal covering 5 corridors (76.4 km) as a JV project of GoI and GoTG with an estimated cost of Rs.24,269 Cr to the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA) on the 4th of November last year with all the required documents. The DPR and all the related documents are strictly as per the stipulated norms of GoI. The five proposed corridors which are basically extensions of the existing Phase-I corridors, are as under:
