Addressing the National Safety Week celebrations on March 6th, 2025 at the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) Managing Director Mr. NVS Reddy emphasized that world-class safety measures have ensured an impeccable safety record for Hyderabad Metro.
He highlighted that innovations, modern engineering practices, and a commitment to safety have enabled the metro system to meet global safety standards. As the chief guest at the 54th National Safety Week event held today at NRSC in Hyderabad, Mr. Reddy elaborated on the comprehensive safety measures implemented in the Hyderabad Metro Rail system. He noted that the metro project was not just an engineering achievement but also a societal initiative designed for the greater public good.
He also pointed out that Hyderabad Metro is the world’s largest metro rail project executed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Despite numerous challenges, the project successfully delivered an efficient and safe transportation system for the public.
Mr. Reddy stressed that safety is not just about compliance but a fundamental responsibility and commitment. He explained that thorough risk assessment at every stage of the project helped prevent potential hazards right from the design phase. Remarkably, Hyderabad Metro has maintained a spotless safety record, with no accidents during or after construction—an achievement that stands as a testament to its rigorous safety protocols. As a result, the Hyderabad Metro has received the prestigious ROSPA Gold Award from Glasgow, UK, for three consecutive years.
Additionally, Hyderabad Metro was the first in India to adopt advanced Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) technology, setting a benchmark for other metro systems in the country. Speaking about NRSC, an affiliate of ISRO, Mr. Reddy lauded its role in driving innovation while prioritizing safety, thereby contributing to India’s technological and scientific advancements.
During the event, NRSC Director Dr. Prakash Chauhan emphasized that this year’s National Safety Week theme focuses not only on safety but also on the well-being and welfare of employees. The event was attended by NRSC Deputy Director Mrs. Padmavati, senior scientists, and other officials.
