HMRL bags Eight Gold Garden Awards at Garden Festival-2024

Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) has once again demonstrated its commitment to environmental sustainability and aesthetic excellence by bagging eight Gold Garden Awards and the prestigious Rolling Trophy for Best Landscape Garden at the Garden Festival-2024. Organized by the Telangana Horticulture Department, this annual event celebrates outstanding achievements in horticulture and green space development.

The awards ceremony took place at the historic Public Gardens in Hyderabad, where Director of Horticulture, Smt. Shaik Yasmeen Basha, presented the Rolling Trophy to Shri Sainath Sunkara, Senior Horticulture Officer at HMRL. The event on February 4th marked yet another milestone for HMRL, which has consistently won multiple awards over the past six consecutive years.

The Managing Director of Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd, Sri NVS Reddy, expressed pride in the organization’s ongoing efforts to enhance urban greenery. He emphasized that the recognition was a testament to the beautifully landscaped areas created at Metro stations and the innovative rooftop gardens developed across the metro network.

“Winning these awards for six consecutive years speaks volumes about our dedication to creating green, sustainable urban spaces,” said Sri NVS Reddy. He further highlighted the organization’s ongoing initiatives to increase greenery under viaducts and enhance avenue plantations along all metro corridors. These efforts are aimed at improving the urban landscape and contributing to environmental conservation.

HMRL’s horticulture team has overcome the challenges of limited space by developing theme-based gardens that blend seamlessly with the metro infrastructure. The lush greenery and thoughtfully curated plant species not only beautify the surroundings but also offer commuters a refreshing experience amid the hustle and bustle of city life.

The Garden Festival-2024 awards are a reflection of HMRL’s holistic approach to urban infrastructure development, where aesthetics and environmental sustainability go hand in hand. By prioritizing green spaces, HMRL is setting a benchmark for other urban development projects in the region.

Sri NVS Reddy also took the opportunity to congratulate the horticulture team for their exceptional efforts and dedication. He stated, “It is commendable that despite the challenges posed by limited areas for garden development, HMRL continues to excel and receive prestigious accolades. This achievement underscores the importance of integrating nature into urban infrastructure.”

As Hyderabad continues to grow and urbanize, initiatives like those undertaken by HMRL play a crucial role in maintaining the city’s environmental balance and enhancing the quality of life for its residents. The accolades received at the Garden Festival-2024 reaffirm HMRL’s position as a leader in sustainable urban development.
