Reversal Facility at Hitech City, Another Major Milestone!

With seamless connectivity like never before, Hyderabad Metro Rail, is creating a new record and revolution of sorts as a modern public transportation system in the city of Hyderabad. The most awaited and also one of the busiest sections of the Hyderabad Metro Rail is the Hitech city stretch, which has got a tremendous connectivity boost after the Ameerpet to Hitech city stretch was opened early this year.

The Corridor III, which was initially planned from Nagole to Shilparamam, has been extended till Raidurg junction, the construction of which is currently under progress after Hitech city station. When the Hitech city stretch was launched, the metro faced the challenge of lack of reversal facility, for metro coaches to immediately take a U-turn and switch towards other platform, for return journey towards Ameerpet. Due to this, the trains were being operated at a reduced frequency, resulting in more waiting time for commuters.

The upcoming metro station at Mindspace junction or Raidurg, which is the final terminal station is a kilometer away from Hitech city. Therefore, metro trains had to terminate at Hi-Tec City station, till the expansion towards the Mindspace junction is completed. The metro line here was in need of another 500-600 metres extension from the Hitech city station which will be curving towards the iconic Hi-Tec City building, till Trident Hotel. There was a need to use the space inside the Hi-Tec City campus since it involved a steep curve of 120-degree radius towards the Mindspace junction.

Following meticulous planning and construction, the much-awaited reversal facility at Hitech city station was commissioned on August 20th, where the twin single line system has been replaced by normal train working system between Hitech city & Jubilee Hills Check post metro stations. The average train frequency on the busy route from Ameerpet to Hitech city has also been increased to 4 minutes during peak hours.

This is a boon for commuters, due to increased frequency of trains, in the busy hub of Hitech city, since lakhs of commuters throng the locality every day from different parts of the city for work and business-related activities. Right from its inception, Hyderabad Metro has been facing many challenges and in its commitment towards making progress, HMRL has been crossing one milestone after the other successfully. The latest commissioning of reversal facility at the strategic IT corridor is an example of HMRL’s determined efforts towards delivering the best connectivity which is not only quick, but also environment friendly.
