In a move that promises to revolutionize last-mile connectivity in Hyderabad, EVZIP has launched electric cars and women-driven electric two-wheelers, aimed at enhancing the ease of travel for Metro Rail passengers. The initiative is a key part of Hyderabad’s growing efforts to become a global leader in sustainable and efficient urban transport, in line with the vision of Chief Minister Mr. A. Revanth Reddy to position the city among the world’s most advanced metropolitan hubs.
A Growing Metro, A Greener Future
Hyderabad’s Metro Rail system, which began with an initial stretch of 69 kilometers, is set for rapid expansion. Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) Managing Director, Mr. NVS Reddy, shared that plans are underway to extend the Metro network to over 200 kilometers, covering even more of the city. This expansion is part of the broader vision to provide a seamless and eco-friendly transportation system across Hyderabad.
First-Last Mile Connectivity: A Key Milestone
As part of this vision, Mr. NVS Reddy, alongside L&T Metro Rail MD Mr. KVB Reddy, flagged off a new fleet of electric two-wheelers and cars introduced by EVZIP under the ‘First-Last Mile Connectivity’ initiative. This effort aims to address the crucial first and last-mile gap, helping Metro commuters travel conveniently between stations and their final destinations.
“Till now, nine companies, including EVZIP, have been providing services under the ‘First and Last Mile Connectivity’ project. Of the approximately 5 lakh people who use Metro Rail daily, 1.25 lakh are being transported to their destinations through these services,” said Mr. NVS Reddy. These services make it easier for commuters to complete their journeys by offering quick, eco-friendly transport options to and from Metro stations.
Introducing ‘EV Zip Esha’: Empowering Women Drivers
One of the most exciting aspects of this launch is the introduction of electric two-wheelers driven by women, called ‘EV Zip Esha.’ This initiative empowers women by offering them the opportunity to drive electric vehicles, providing both employment and a sustainable mode of transport. Around 100 of these electric two-wheelers will be deployed from Parade Grounds and Secunderabad East stations, with plans to extend the service to areas like Malkajgiri, Sainik Puri, and ECIL.
“This is a significant step in ensuring that women have more opportunities in the transportation sector while contributing to the city’s goal of sustainable mobility,” Mr. NVS Reddy added. The introduction of ‘EV Zip Esha’ not only boosts the accessibility of eco-friendly transport but also supports gender inclusivity in the workforce.
The Future of Hyderabad’s Transport
The launch of these electric vehicles is just the beginning. As part of the Metro Rail expansion, more electric vehicles will be introduced, expanding the coverage of ‘First-Last Mile Connectivity’ to even more stations and neighborhoods. This move aligns with Hyderabad’s broader goals of enhancing urban mobility, reducing traffic congestion, and lowering the city’s carbon footprint.
As Mr. NVS Reddy put it, “The Metro Rail expansion is in line with Chief Minister Mr. Revanth Reddy’s vision to make Hyderabad a global city with world-class infrastructure.” By integrating sustainable transport options like electric vehicles into the Metro network, Hyderabad is taking bold steps toward a greener, more efficient urban future.
The combination of expanding Metro Rail services and introducing electric vehicles for last-mile connectivity is sure to make commuting in Hyderabad faster, cleaner, and more convenient for residents across the city.
